Some senior living in California were happy to hear that property tax deferrals came back. Sometimes, it’s just too hard to handle property taxes on a fixed and limited income. Some seniors were planning on selling next year anyway. So, when California’s Property Tax Postponement Program began accepting applications for the 2017-2018 property tax filing year, some seniors jumped at the opportunity. See, many remember that the State Controller’s Property Tax Postponement Program was suspended by the Legislature in 2009.

Here’s what it did. Senior citizens or disabled people who had an annual household income of $35,500 or less applied for postponement of their property taxes on their principal residences. The State Controller began accepting applications on October 1, 2017. Some counties, like Orange County, were even granted an extension on the application. Orange County residents have until June 1, 2018 to apply. Are you interested in finding out what this is all about? Interested in seeing if you might qualify for a property tax deferment? Everything you need to know is posted on the State Controller’s website.
