The area was originally part of Irvine Ranch which developed into around 23 independent neighborhoods that were later merged into a larger development called Northwood in 1970s. With 46 subtracts and a population of almost sixty-thousand it is known for its mature natural well-kept landscaping including eucalyptus trees that provide safeguard from powerful Santa Ana Winds of fall. It’s a place where generations have lived together. There are twelve park spread over 161 acres of land. The Northwood Community Park is most popular with amphitheater, four BBQ areas, dozen picnic tables, restrooms, play areas, bicycle trail access, basketball, soccer, baseball fields, tennis courts and much more. Other parks are also well maintained with tunnels, bridges and spiral slides for kids.

It is located within Irvine Unified School district top most schools are Northwood Elementary School, Brywood Elementary School Santiago Hills Elementary School, Canyonview Elementary School, Sierra Middle School and Northwood High School. The dominant shopping destination is Northwood Town Center which is located at intersection of Irvine Boulevard and Yale Avenue. It has grocery stores, banks, animal hospital and gym etc. Another plaza is Trabuco where other than retail shops and business a church is also located namely “Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church.”
